It takes a village to raise a child, but often that village washes hands off the mother once she delivers a child. In many ways, we are taught to ignore our own needs from a young age. Some of us, like me, began to push our own needs down to avoid conflict. Others do it to be seen as “good” or worthy of love.
It can feel uncomfortable and vulnerable to voice those needs out loud. And figuring out how everyone can get their needs met can be tricky—especially when our children are little. But everybody in the family deserves to have their needs met, especially the mothers and the caregivers in our family and community
How many times have you postponed something important for yourself because you were busy caring for others? Whether it’s a health checkup, a therapy session, or even that moment of rest you desperately need. Mothers and caregivers often neglect their own mental and emotional health because they feel they must always be available for others.
Physical and emotional exhaustion is real.
